Nasal Cancer
Symptoms Diagnosis
- Blockage on one side of the nose
- Post-nasal drip
- Nasal congestion and stuffiness that doesn’t get better
- Pain above or below your eyes
- Nosebleeds
- Pus draining from the nose
- Decreased sense of smell
- Numbness or pain in parts of the face looseness or numbness of the teeth
- Growth or mass of the nose, mouth or palate
- Constant watery eyes
- Bulging of one eye
- Loss or change in vision
- Pain or pressure in one of the ears trouble opening the mouth
- Lymph Nodes in the neck getting larger
Causes
- Smoking
- Human papillomavirus infection
Risk Factors
- Males who are over 40
- Infected with HPV
- Exposed to certain workplace chemicals or dust that can be found in the following jobs:
- Furniture making
- Sawmill work
- Woodworking
- Shoe-making
- Metal-plating
- Flour mill or bakery work
- Fiber-optic scope: Doctors diagnose nasal cancer with an imaging test, a lighted tube-like instruments that looks inside the nose
- Your doctor may look inside your nasal passages with an endoscope
- Biopsy of the tissue
- If you have been diagnosed with nasal cavity or paranasal sinus cancer, a chest x-ray might be done to find out if the cancer has spread to your lungs, which is the most common site of spread other than lymph nodes
Treatment Options
Treatment may involve surgery, radiation, chemotherapy or a combination of these treatments.
