“Subjectivity” is the main issue when asked the question: Are you having any pain”?
Recently a leading team of researchers headed by Tor Wager discovered they could visualize pain response through fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging) technology.
Using heat, from warm to painfully hot, they were able to record the brain response when undergoing different degrees of heat. The pain and brain pattern changed when given an analgesic, showing the reduction of pain. This research has opened significant interest in other areas of paint occur within the body.
