A new study shows that the HPV vaccine may reduce the risk of HPV-related disease. Dr. Elmar A. Joura, the lead author and an associate professor of gynecology at the Medical University of Vienna, found that the vaccine reduced the subsequent HPV-related disease by 46 percent over 2 years.
For those with the most serious types of cancer, the results of the vaccine were stronger. Compared to the placebo, the vaccinated patients saw a 64 percent reduction in recurrence risk.
