Cold Compression Cooler FAQ and Troubleshooting

FAQ
How do I use the Cold Compression Cooler System?
Using the system is easy. Fill the cooler with ice and water to the indicated levels. Apply the JawBra with the pads around the face and jaw, velcro the wrap around the top of the head. Then just turn on the cooler and let the compression wrap and refreshing cold to minimize swelling and pain. You can also use hot tap water in the system for further moderation of pain (for post-surgical therapy, apply heat only after the 3rd day or as advised by your doctor.)
How do I set up the Cold Compression System?
- Add ice to cooler
- Add water to fill above the intake
- Raise the cooler to where the pads will be, i.e. head level for jaw patients.
- Plug cooler in
- Confirm pads are in JawBra and securely connected to tubing.
- Prime pads by lowering them below the cooler
- Turn cooler on to 100% flow, confirm water is circulating, then lower to approximately 60% flow on the knob.
- Apply jaw-bra with pads on the area
- Replace ice when it melts, approx 3-4 hrs.
- Your doctor may request that you use the wrap in intervals, turning the cooler on and off every half-hour to limit the chance of overcooling.
How can I make refilling the cooler easier?
Instead of using just ice, fill-up two 1-liter bottles ¾ full with water, cap and freeze them. In the cooler, add just enough water to cover the intakes in the cooler. Use one frozen bottle in the cooler until it melts. Switch the melted bottle for the 2nd frozen one. Then refreeze the first bottle until 2nd bottle melts, and switch again. This way, the water never gets too cold, the water level in the cooler stays the same and you do not have to change the water or ice. Instead you only have to simply switch out the frozen bottles.
What should I watch out for?
- If the pads still feel cold on the area after 30-40 minutes, either add a layer between the pad and skin or turn down the dial. The pads should feel a neutral temperature to the user after 20-30 minutes.
- An individual’s circulation and sensitivities to cold are different. If you ever feel pain or the area gets red and puffy from the cold, take a break. Then use less ice, add a layer of cloth, and/or turn down the pump dial.
- Do not allow the jaw-bra wrap to get wet. This can saturate the skin like a long bath and it could increase the rate of heat exchange to over-cool the area. Either dry the JawBra or place paper towels between the JawBra and the skin.
